Processed 105-minute view of M8, the Lagoon Nebula

Processing companion · September 2026

From forty subs
to the Lagoon.

A Siril session reconstructed by code: calibration and frame selection, 1.4× drizzle, a separated starless development, recomposition, and final astrometric verification.

The reading

A short edit with a surprisingly complete trail.

The session starts with two nights of 180-second OSC exposures. Thirty-five of forty candidates survived registration and quality filtering, producing a 105-minute drizzle master.

The creative work then splits the stars from the nebula. The Lagoon receives its stretch, local contrast, curves, and denoise independently; the stellar layer is refined and returned before a final plate solve checks the finished geometry.
